The method behind the list

How the
rankings work.

Every record keeps its source, its observation date and an honest account of what the score can and cannot tell you.

What the score measures

This is our published score. It measures the strength of a business’s public review record, not the quality of its work.

Rating quality

50 of 100
50/ 100

Scaled from the star rating, and only counted once a business has at least three reviews to average.

Review volume

30 of 100
30/ 100

Awarded in bands from 10 reviews upward: 20 reviews earns 12 points, 50 earns 18, 100 earns 24 and 200 earns the full 30.

Profile completeness

20 of 100
20/ 100

Eight points for a phone number, eight for a website, and four for trading hours or an owner-claimed listing.

LocalLocal calculates these points from each business’s reported rating, review count and available profile details. The score is our own; Google does not supply or endorse it.

Score versus list position

A separate number

Position is separate from the score. Equal scores are ordered by star rating, then review count, then a stable business identifier. Identical records therefore keep the same order.

Comparisons are local

Capital-city lists combine geographically verified businesses across the metropolitan area. Suburb lists remain local. Each list ranks our recorded businesses, not every provider in the market.

Bands

Excellent 90–100 · Strong 75–89 · Good 60–74 · Fair 40–59 · Building 0–39

Paid placement

No payment changes the reputation score or the organic order of these records.

Ties

Equal scores are resolved by star rating, review count and a stable business identifier—not the order a scraper found them.

Collection scope

Metro pages show the top 50 when at least 50 eligible businesses are available. Smaller lists show their actual count.

Where the records come from

Business details, ratings and review counts come from Google Maps records collected for this directory. We retain source evidence and do not republish review text.

An observation date records when a business record was collected. It does not establish when a rating last changed, so check the current record on the source platform before booking.

Metro boundaries use the Australian Bureau of Statistics’ 2026 Greater Capital City Statistical Areas. Greater Sydney includes the Central Coast; Greater Perth includes Mandurah. Canberra uses the ACT boundary. Geelong and Gold Coast remain separate from Melbourne and Brisbane.

Locations are checked against the boundary polygons. Businesses without a verifiable location stay outside metro rankings until their service area can be confirmed. A completed search is not proof of complete market coverage.

Held separately

  • Source observations stay immutable.
  • Reviewed corrections are stored as separate overlays.
  • Removed records stay suppressed through later imports.
  • The publisher is identified separately from every listed business.

LocalLocal publishes this directory at locallocal.com.au. Listed businesses are separate organisations and inclusion does not imply a commercial relationship.

Corrections and removals

Open any business profile and select Update details to request a change or a removal. Include a public reference we can check.

Requests are stored for review and never change a record automatically. The current private preview keeps requests locally and sends no email, so treat the receipt as a record of your request rather than a delivery confirmation.

What stays visible

  • The original observation remains available for comparison.
  • Reviewed fields and their dates are listed on the profile.
  • A suppressed business stops appearing in rankings, profiles and badges.

What the numbers cannot prove

  • A rating or score does not verify qualifications, insurance or licensing. Check the relevant register.
  • Review counts describe reported activity, not the number of unique customers.
  • Suburb labels come from the source record and do not establish a service area.
  • Structured data describes the visible page. It does not guarantee a search feature or an AI citation.

Start comparing

Use the rankings to build a shortlist, then confirm scope, price and qualifications directly with the business.
